Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort or MCS Beaufort (ICAO: KNBC, FAA LID: NBC) is a United States Marine Corps (USMC) air base located 5 km northwest of downtown Beaufort County. , South Carolina, USA. Naval Air Station Beaufort was established on 15 June 1943 to improve submarine patrolling during World War II. It was closed in 1946 and reopened in 1956
On September 19, 1975, the airfield was named Merritt Field in honor of USMC Major General Levi G. Merritt, a 1917 graduate of the South Carolina War College.
